The new year is here and now is the time to declutter, breathe and upgrade your home to bring it back to life and love your space again. Your home is probably swimming in presents, decorations and more clutter than you hope to have this time of year. Once everything is boxed up and put away, your house may feel a bit more empty to you. While the winter months allow us to stay inside, why not take the time to freshen up your home and help you move forward. There are a few quick and inexpensive ways to freshen your home and give your space the fresh face it deserves to move into a great year ahead.

  1. Add New Pillows – We know you’ve decorated your home with the colorful green and red colors so now it’s time to brighten it up with some easy and bright colors in various patterns. I have a few simple stripes and then add a larger accent pillow. In order to keep your room still in the theme of winter, add a fun wintery aspects such as a knit sweater to your couch. It’s a fun way to get cozy up during those long chilly nights. If that isn’t your style, it may be budget savvy to get some new pillow covers and use your existing pillows to help save the cost. Amazon has a few great deals that can help you!
  2. Stick To Neutrals – While it’s fun to get all the home light up with fresh garland and lights, tone it down to add a more peaceful vibe for the New Year decor. Starting in January, why not downsize and simplify everything. Again, sticking with a wintery theme within your home, think colors such as light browns, blues and whites. Add perhaps some burlap around glass lanterns by the fire and adds a warmly touch for our town guests or neighbors that stop during this holiday season. You can also add a few cozy lanterns on your front porch as well to bring in a welcoming feel too.

4. Add Something New – It’s always fun a way to add a new piece of furniture or splurge on something that’s visually appealing to you and your space. Look for unique, quirky or items that simply put a smile on your face. The biggest take away is to make sure the price tag won’t break your bank. Look at flea markets, second hand stores or clearance items at your favorite place. It can be a fun modern piece, big or small but it should be in a place where you want to see it every day and be reminded of this purchase to bring you joy.

It helps when it’s time for you to refresh your home to declutter or donate many items that either don’t bring you joy or you haven’t used in a long time. Bring trash bags or boxes with you to start a pile to make it easier for you. Once you do that, it’ll be easier to figure out how you want to refresh your home. Make a list of items you’d like to refresh and update in your home. You can start small or go big like repairing or installing a new roof. Just know that whatever it is you are going to do, your home will appreciate in value and you’ll love coming home.
